Denver Gears Up for Its Biggest Back to School Fest Yet on August 2

Published on July 15, 2025

DENVER, CO - The City and County of Denver is thrilled to announce our largest Back to School Fest to date, happening Saturday, August 2, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the National Western Center. Hosted by Denver Human Rights & Community Partnerships (HRCP), this FREE, family-friendly celebration is a signature event of the 12th annual Denver Days, and is an exciting way to kick off the new school year with resources and community spirit.

Kids can gear up with one of 5,000 free backpacks filled with essential school supplies, while families take advantage of free health and wellness clinics. There will be free haircuts for student, plus plenty of fun activities to keep everyone entertained. Parents and guardians can explore opportunities at an on-site job fair and easily access a wide range of city and nonprofit services-all in one welcoming space.

"Community starts with our kids and our city is strongest when every child has the tools they need to succeed," said Denver Mayor Mike Johnston. "The Back to School Fest is more than school supplies, it's about showing every child in this city that they matter, and they belong."

This year's Back to School Fest is made possible through strong collaboration with the Silva Family Foundation, Birdseed Collective, National Western Center and Denver Water.

"We are proud to partner with the city and local organizations to make a meaningful impact," said Dr. Jose Silva, President of the Silva Family Foundation. "This event is about empowering families and creating an equitable start to the school year for every student in Denver."

As one of our key community partners, Goodwill of Colorado is helping make this event a success by collaborating on planning and outreach, ensuring families across Denver are aware and connected to the resources being offered.

"We believe in the power of collaboration to uplift communities," said Karla Grazier, President and CEO of Goodwill of Colorado." "Being part of the Back to School Fest aligns perfectly with our mission to help individuals and families thrive. We're honored to play a role in bringing this incredible event to life."

We're giving away 5,000 backpacks filled with school supplies-first come, first served! No registration is required, but we encourage families to arrive early to ensure they receive supplies, enjoy fun activities and connect with valuable community resources.
