RCPAAA Electronics Recycling, Document Shredding Tomorrow
The Richardson Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association's (RPCAAA) spring Electronics Recycling and Document Shredding Event will be held Saturday, May 9 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at The Heights Church, 201 W. Renner Rd. (southwest corner of Renner Road and US 75).
Drop off documents and electronic devices (cell phones, flat screen TVs or monitors, peripherals, etc.) to be recycled or shredded.
There is no charge for dropping off electronics and five boxes or less of paper (banker's box size); a minimum $5 charge per box applies to more than five boxes.
Note: Please bring only sensitive documents to be shredded. Papers such as magazines or newspapers can be placed in regular recycling.
Established in 1993, the RCPAAA works to support the RPD with meals, welcoming gift cards to new officers and retiring officers/employees, equipment, promotional material and other projects.

Bond, Charter Election Results to be Canvassed Monday
Unofficial election results show Richardson voters approved all five propositions in the City's 2026 Bond Election and all 50 measures in the 2026 Charter Amendment Election held last Saturday, May 2. The election results remain unofficial until canvassed by the City Council at a meeting scheduled to take place Monday, May 11.
The bond election totals $223.4 million and is structured with no anticipated increase to the City's property tax rate. The charter election included 50 separate propositions covering technical updates as well as governance and transparency provisions.
Based on the unofficial returns, between 4,377 and 4,400 ballots were cast on the five bond propositions, with each measure receiving majority support. Vote totals on the charter measures ranged from 3,947 to 4,278 ballots cast, depending on the proposition.

Tech-Based Company ANDREW Relocates and Expands Within Richardson
The City of Richardson has announced that ANDREW, a global provider of wireless network infrastructure solutions, will relocate and expand its headquarters within the city, reinforcing Richardson's role as a hub for advanced manufacturing and technology jobs. The company will move from 2601 Telecom Pkwy. to a nearby facility at 2920 Telecom Pkwy., leasing about 42,000 square feet of office, engineering and lab space under a long-term agreement. The relocation supports ANDREW's global growth and strengthens its local presence, retaining the company's current workforce and supporting the potential addition of highly skilled positions in the coming years.
ANDREW will make a capital investment of more than $2 million to support tenant improvements and the addition of new furniture, fixtures and equipment at its new facility.

"Eisemann Center Presents" Series, Other 2026-27 Eisemann Center Initiatives Unveiled
City staff updated the City Council about Eisemann Center initiatives at Monday's Council work session, unveiling the 2026-27 Eisemann Center Presents series, taking a look at strategic plans for marketing, sponsorship and ticket sales and announcing a two-day celebration planned for fall 2027 when the Eisemann Center marks its Silver Anniversary.
Highlights of the upcoming Eisemann Center Presents series:
A continuation of the popular "Eisemann Center Cabaret" Jazz Series, this year with all groups entirely comprised of, or led by, women
More comedians and new one-person plays
A culturally diverse lineup with artists representing Mexico, India, France, China, Japan, Turkey and more, performed in languages spanning the globe
All series artists have been asked to engage with the community through lectures, classes, etc.
A preview party was held last night in the Bank of America Theatre for volunteers, sponsors and Friends of the Eisemann Center; the new series begins Oct. 17, with tickets on sale now to Friends members and to the general public beginning May 15.

Art and Essay Contest Winners Announced
The winners of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Essay Contest and Black History Month Art Contest were recognized at Monday's City Council work session. Seven artists/authors were awarded $200 and their essays and art pieces will be published in the June edition of Richardson Today.

This was the sixth year for the contests, which are open to students who live in the City of Richardson or attend a school in Richardson. The Richardson City Council sponsored the contests in cooperation with the Community Inclusion and Engagement Commission, Cultural Arts Commission, Richardson ISD, Plano ISD and UT Dallas to promote, embrace and celebrate community diversity and inclusion.

City's Third Annual Bike Rodeo is Tomorrow
The City of Richardson and BikeDFW are co-hosting the City's third annual bike rodeo Saturday, May 9, from 10-11:30 a.m. in the Heights Park parking lot next to the baseball fields. This free, family-friendly event gives kids the opportunity to learn bike safety skills in a fun, hands-on environment. In addition to a bicycle safety course, the event offers free minor bicycle repairs, a helmet fit check, bike skills activities and games.

Fiber Optic Work to Impact Traffic on Floyd Road Near UT Dallas
Northbound and southbound Floyd Road between Campbell Road and Lawnmeadow Drive may be narrowed to traffic, and the right turn lane of westbound Campbell Road on to northbound Floyd Road may be closed to traffic, from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. as fiber optic boring and placement work takes place. The work is expected to be completed by early September.
Underground Utility Work to Begin Monday on Arapaho between Woodland Way and West Shore Drive
Starting Monday, May 11, crews will perform underground utility work on westbound Arapaho Road between Woodland Way and West Shore Drive. The left lane will be closed, with temporary middle-lane closures expected from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. During peak hours, the middle and outside lanes will remain open. Work in this area is estimated to be complete by mid-June.
This work is part of the West Shore Drive Reconstruction Project, funded by the 2021 Bond Program, and includes waterline replacement, sidewalk widening and street reconstruction. Crews are currently working on West Shore between Woodland Way and Fontana Avenue. In that section, those heading southbound will be detoured around construction. The overall project is expected to be complete by spring 2027.

Join Library staff for a family storytime program geared towards children ages 3-6 years. All children must be accompanied by at least one adult. No residency or registration requirement to attend.
At the Eisemann Center:
The Contemporary Chorale, directed by Melanie Moore, presents a selection of "colorful" songs including "Blue Velvet," "Big Yellow Taxi," "Bein' Green," "Paint It Black," "Orange-Colored Sky," a unique arrangement of "The Rainbow Song" and a nod to "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat."
Over the next eight weeks, more than 20 different recitals will be held at the Eisemann Center, in both the Hill Performance Hall and Bank of America Theatre. In fact, serving the community as a performance venue for local arts groups is the Eisemann Center's primary focus, with regional, national and global performers and events filling in the rest of the Center's calendar.

At UT Dallas:
Two new exhibits at the SP/N Gallery span the gamut of art study, from undergraduate to advanced levels. A juried exhibition of undergraduate and graduating students' work will be celebrated at a reception tonight (along with the show's juror, New Media Artist James Talambas) and will be on display through May 23; while there, check out the creative PhD exhibition by Tara Lyon entitled, "The Post Apocalyptic Travel Guide," up through May 28. Simplified, Updated Richardson Recycling Guide Now Online
The City's Public Services department has released a revamped Recycling Guide this week, designed to make it easier than ever to recycle correctly and reduce contamination. To keep up with recent updates from our local recycler, Republic Services, residents should focus on these five core categories:
Cardboard: Please ensure all boxes are flattened.
Paper: Standard office paper, mail and newspapers (excluding shredded paper).
Metal Cans: Aluminum and steel food and beverage cans.
Plastic: Focus specifically on plastic bottles and jugs.
By sticking to these streamlined essentials, you help ensure our recycling program remains efficient and effective.
