OLYMPIA, Wash. - The Department of Revenue's head of Tax Policy Tim Jennrich has earned a national award for his leadership and contributions that have influenced tax administration and policy across the country.
The national Federation of Tax Administrators (FTA) awarded Jennrich the Harley T. Duncan Award for Leadership and Service during the organization's annual meeting June 7-10 in Nashville, Tennessee. Jennrich currently leads Revenue's tax policy efforts as the senior assistant director of Tax Policy and oversees five of the agency's divisions.
During his nearly 20 years of public service, Jennrich has been at the forefront of innovation, transparency, multi-state collaboration and streamlined tax administration that has benefited state revenues and taxpayers. He has been recognized for creating practical, taxpayer-focused solutions-such as interim guidance statements-that help businesses quickly identify their tax obligations and encourage voluntary compliance.
Jennrich's influence and collaborative efforts can be tracked at the national level through his involvement with the Multistate Tax Commission as its Digital Products Uniformity Project chair and twice as President of the Streamlined Sales Tax Governing Board. He's been a key voice in reshaping the federal Digital Goods and Services Tax Fairness Act to protect state revenue and has prioritized relationships with Washington Tribes.
"The work Tim does for the Washington State Department of Revenue and on national tax issues benefits all state departments of revenue and taxpayers across the country," Revenue's Acting Director John Ryser said. "We're fortunate to have someone with Tim's vast talent and integrity as a leader on our team. We want to congratulate him for earning this well-deserved recognition."
The FTA Board praised Jennrich for his leadership and service.
"Tim has committed nearly two decades to state service, making tax policy clearer, fairer, and more practicable for taxpayers and their representatives, not just in Washington, but nationally, as well," FTA Executive Director Sharonne Bonardi said.
The Federation of Tax Administrators is a nonprofit organization comprised of the tax and revenue departments of 50 states, the District of Columbia, and New York City.
Each year, the organization considers awarding the Harley T. Duncan Award to tax administration leaders who demonstrate exceptional vision and innovation, commitment to open communication and continuous learning, and a willingness to adapt and embrace change.
