A preliminary discussion on the formal handing over of the custodianship of Sandahiru Seya to the Atamasthanaya (Eight places of worship) was held Yesterday (09 October) in Anuradhapura, under the patronage of the Atamasthanadhipathi and Chief Incumbent of the Ruwanweliseya Venerable Ven. Ethalawetunawewe Gnanathilaka NayakaThero.
The meeting was attended by the Defence Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd), senior representatives from the Ministry of Buddha Sasana, including the Commissioner General, and senior officers of the tri-forces, who gathered to coordinate arrangements for the religious and ceremonial aspects of this significant national event.
The constrution of the Sandahiru Seya commenced in 2010 as a tribute to the war heroes of the Armed Forces and Police who sacrificed their lives in the defence of the nation during the decades-long conflict. The stupa was envisioned as a lasting symbol of gratitude and national unity.
Over the years, the construction was supported by the tri-forces, various state institutions, and buddhist devotees. The sacred relics enshrined within the stupa further elevate its spiritual importance.
During today's meeting, preliminary discussions were held the handing over ceremony, logistics, security, religious observances, and other aspects related with the maintenance of infrastructure facilities and etc.
The Defence Secretary commended the efforts of all stakeholders who have contributed to the completion of the stupa and reaffirmed the Ministry's continued support.
