PHILADELPHIA - United States Attorney David Metcalf announced that Ibrahem Johnson, 25, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was sentenced today to 238 months in prison and five years of supervised release by United States District Judge Mary Kay Costello for robbing three city stores in a two-week span in 2025.
The defendant was charged by indictment in August 2025 and pleaded guilty this May to three counts of interference in interstate commerce by robbery (Hobbs Act robbery), two counts of using, carrying, and brandishing a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence, and possession of a firearm by a felon.
As detailed in court filings and statements, on the evening of May 28, 2025, Johnson robbed at gunpoint a Family Dollar store located on the 5700 block of Walnut Street, telling employees to "comply or get shot." After taking cash from a register, Johnson fled the scene.
On June 8, 2025, shortly after 9 p.m., he committed the armed robbery of a Rite-Aid Pharmacy on the 5600 block of Chestnut Street. Brandishing a gun at an employee, the defendant stated, "give me the money or I'll shoot you." After obtaining cash, he fled the area of the store.
Three days later, on the morning of June 11, 2025, he robbed a Family Dollar store on the 5800 block of Woodland Avenue. Johnson again brandished a gun at a store employee and ordered the employee to "get back," before fleeing with cash.
Approximately half an hour later, a Philadelphia police officer recognized the defendant from a radio alert. After a brief foot chase, Johnson was arrested and a loaded .40-caliber semiautomatic handgun was recovered from a bag in his possession.
This case was investigated by the Philadelphia Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Kwambina Coker and Katherine Shulman.
