Amo Statement on Short Term Extension of Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act

Washington, DC - TODAY, Congressman Gabe Amo (D-RI) issued the following statement after opposing House Republicans Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act plan:

"In the dead of night, House Republicans tried to force through a five-year extension of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act without the necessary safeguards to protect the privacy of Americans from the Trump Administration. We defeated their plan.

Time and again, this Administration has shown contempt for the Constitution and Americans' civil liberties. Handing Trump expanded surveillance powers without real reforms is reckless.

An Administration that shoots protesters and deports American citizens should not be entrusted with our most sensitive communications.

I will keep fighting to protect our security and to prevent Americans' fundamental rights from being abused by Trump and his Administration."
