Community welcomes newest Australian Citizens at special ceremony

Our region officially grew a little larger and richer as five community members took their pledge to become Australia's newest citizens during a celebratory ceremony on Thursday, September 17.

The ceremony marked a major milestone for the inductees, surrounding them with family, friends and local leaders as they pledged their loyalty to Australia and embraced the responsibilities and privileges of citizenship.

Federation Council warmly welcomed the following individuals as official Australian Citizens:

• Felicity Azarcon;
• Maria Azarcon;
• Marionietto Azarcon;
• Sharon Dowling; and
• Angela Pilgrim.

Federation Council Mayor Cr Cheryl Cook said Citizenship ceremonies are always a powerful reminder of the diversity, strength and sense of belonging that tie our community together.

"We are immensely proud to stand alongside our new citizens as they take this exciting next step in their journey," she said.

"To our newest citizens, thank you for choosing to contribute your rich experiences, culture and unique talents to our region. You make our community vibrant and a welcoming place to live and we are honoured you have chosen Federation to be your home."

The event concluded with the presentation of official citizenship certificates marking a memorable occasion for the region and its newest full-fledged members.
