Travel Wisconsin's Fall Color Report Leads Leaf Seekers to Color-Filled Landscapes

MADISON, Wis. (Sept. 22, 2026) - As autumn officially arrives today, Travel Wisconsin's Fall Color Report equips residents and visitors with the essential information and inspiration to take in the fall foliage and enjoy every moment of the beautiful-but-brief season.

The Fall Color Report is an interactive, map-based resource to plan getaways around the changing fall leaves. The report tracks the status of fall color as leaves transition from green to peak color. More than 100 volunteers report on fall color conditions in all 72 counties, providing regular updates throughout the fall season. The Fall Color Report also serves as a comprehensive trip-planning tool. Users can click a destination on the map for nearby recommendations for lodging, activities, events, dining and other ideas for autumn itineraries.

"Fall is spectacular but short, and there's not a moment to miss. This fall, we are encouraging folks to add one more day to the vacation, detour to one more overlook, visit one more apple orchard and make memories they'll talk about for many more years," said Tourism Secretary Anne Sayers. "The Fall Color Report takes the guesswork out of planning a trip. Visitors know where to go, what to expect and how to enjoy the time when they get there."

Several filtering options assist with planning trips for peak color. The report can be sorted by the best currently reported colors for impromptu getaways. Users can also filter the report by the estimated week of peak to plan trips over the coming weeks. For further outdoor adventures, the Fall Color Report directly links to the Wisconsin Trail Report. The Trail Report helps travelers find hiking and biking trail networks to pair with peak fall colors.

"Anybody can plan a trip with the Fall Color Report - road trippers, sightseers, hikers, bikers, families, friends, residents and visitors," said Secretary Sayers. "Fall isn't just loved by travelers; it's critical for Wisconsin's booming tourism industry. Travelers generate billions in economic impact for Wisconsin communities, businesses and workers while making memories that last a lifetime."

Travel Wisconsin partners with tourism bureaus, parks and recreation departments, chambers of commerce and other organizations to serve as fall color reporters. The reporters use on-the-ground observations to provide leaf seekers with comprehensive updates on the status of fall color. The report was viewed 1.4 million times last fall, making it one of Travel Wisconsin's most visited webpages.
