Joint Initiative by the Ministry of Information and UNESCO to Strengthen Fact-Checking and Combat Misinformation

As part of its support to this initiative, UNESCO is also engaging a network of young people from across Lebanon who previously participated in Media and Information Literacy training programmes, particularly within the framework of the Youth Empowerment in South Lebanon project funded by UNIFIL. Through this engagement, young people contribute to promoting critical thinking, responsible information consumption, and community awareness on the importance of verifying information.

By strengthening fact checking systems and advancing Media and Information Literacy, this initiative contributes to reinforcing the role of the Ministry of Information in monitoring circulating news, verifying its accuracy, and sharing verified information with the public through a dedicated digital platform. It also contributes to fostering a more transparent, responsible, and resilient information landscape in Lebanon.
