The University of Toledo Department of Music will welcome Lisa Sung, an award-winning jazz pianist, composer and educator, as the guest performer for the 2026 Art Tatum Memorial Concert on Wednesday, Feb. 18.

The free, public performance begins at 7 p.m. in UToledo's Center for Performing Arts Recital Hall, with Sung accompanied by UToledo faculty Norman Damschroder on double bass, Dr. Olman Piedra on drums and Jay Weik on guitar.

Sung is a celebrated performer and educator known for her exploration of world musical traditions through jazz. Her debut album, "Half Moon," offers jazz interpretations of Korean children's songs, while her second album, "Dari Sabang," explores Indonesian folk melodies. Michigan's John Stites Jazz Artist Organization supported her cross-cultural tour of both countries as well as Vietnam with an artistic development award in 2022. She plans to continue her international work with tours in Brazil and the Philippines in 2026.

Sung is also an adjunct professor at Calvin University and Aquinas College in Michigan.

"Lisa Sung is an exceptional performer whose unique approach to jazz expands how we think about the genre," said Dr. Jason Stumbo, chair of the Department of Music. "We're pleased to welcome her for the Art Tatum Memorial Concert, which we host annually in honor of the late jazz great who grew up in Toledo."

Tatum is credited with greatly expanding the genre by introducing new techniques and arrangements, and his successful professional career included many successful recordings, a radio program and regular performances nationally and internationally.
