WASHINGTON, D.C. - In advance of the House Committee on Homeland Security's organizational meeting for the 119th Congress, Chairman Mark E. Green, MD (R-TN) released the following statement and announced the new subcommittee leadership and majority membership:
"As the Committee organizes for the 119th Congress, we are prepared to ensure the Department of Homeland Security succeeds in its no-fail mission and fulfills the mandate given by the American people to restore public safety. It is an honor to return as chairman, and I remain committed to finding opportunities for bipartisan solutions alongside Ranking Member Thompson. "I am grateful for the incredible work of our returning members and proudly welcome impressive new additions to our Committee roster. Representatives Ogles, Biggs, Evans, Mackenzie, and Knott will bring valuable insight and experience to the Homeland Security Committee. "Next week, the Committee will hit the ground running. We will fight to secure our borders, combat terrorism on U.S. soil, bolster our cyber defenses, promote our nation's maritime security, and ensure the resiliency of our communities-all while restoring government accountability."In the wake of numerous crises created by the Biden administration, these missions have never been more important. I look forward to working with this robust team and the incoming Trump administration to make America safe once again."
On being appointed Vice Chairman of the full Committee, Chairman Emeritus Michael McCaul (R-TX) said: "The Biden-Harris administration's disastrous open-border policies have wreaked havoc on our communities, cost thousands of young Americans' lives, and left our nation vulnerable to rising terrorism. Thankfully, with Republicans in control of the House, Senate, and White House, this committee has a unique opportunity to help turn the tide. As a former attorney tasked with securing the border and the former chairman of this committee, I know fixing the crisis at our border won't be easy, but I look forward to working with Chairman Green and the Trump administration to help put a stop to the madness and keep Americans safe." The following members will serve as Subcommittee Chairs on the Homeland Security Committee during the 119th Congress. On being appointed Chairman of the Subcommittee on Border Security and Enforcement, Representative Michael Guest (R-MS) said: "President Trump has been clear that the most important issue facing our nation is border security. As the chairman of the Subcommittee on Border Security and Enforcement, I will work with President Trump and Border Czar Tom Homan to secure our border and protect our communities. I am honored to serve in this capacity and to have the opportunity to lead the Committee on Homeland Security and the Republican Conference on this important legislative work." On being reappointed Chairman of the Subcommittee on Transportation and Maritime Security, Representative Carlos Gimenez (R-FL) said: "I am proud to continue serving as chair of the Subcommittee on Transportation and Maritime Security. I will continue to focus on protecting America's waterways, strengthening our Coast Guard, modernizing our airports, and safeguarding our country from dangerous regimes like Communist Cuba, Communist China, Maduro's Venezuela, and Ortega's Nicaragua. As the former Fire Chief of the City of Miami and Mayor of Miami-Dade County, I remain deeply committed to helping our agencies as we face evolving threats and operational challenges that demand our full attention and support." On being reappointed Chairman of the Subcommittee on Counterterrorism and Intelligence, Representative August Pfluger (R-TX) said: "From the Chinese Communist Party's malign influence to homegrown violent extremists motivated by foreign terrorist organizations, our nation faces one of the most dangerous times in its history. To combat these threats, we must renew a strong security posture and put an end to the policies of the past four years that have left our homeland security in shambles. With this important mission ahead of us, I am proud to continue serving as chairman of the Subcommittee on Counterterrorism and Intelligence in the 119th Congress. I look forward to working alongside my new and returning colleagues to restore safety and security for the American people." On being reappointed Chairman of the Subcommittee on Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Protection, Representative Andrew Garbarino (R-NY) said: "Safeguarding our homeland, strengthening national security, and protecting Americans are not just priorities-they are a national imperative. That's why I am proud to continue my service on the Homeland Security Committee, and particularly as Chairman of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Protection Subcommittee. In an ever-changing world, and in the face of escalating attacks by Salt Typhoon and other PRC-backed actors, we must stay vigilant and persistent in addressing emerging threats to ensure the safety, freedom, and prosperity of every citizen. I also look forward to serving on the Subcommittee on Transportation and Maritime Security, where my colleagues and I will continue working to strengthen port security and deter malign activity across our nation's maritime borders. I am proud of the progress we have made in strengthening the resilience of our critical infrastructure and look forward to building on those efforts this Congress." On being appointed Chairman of the Subcommittee on Emergency Management and Technology, Representative Dale Strong (R-AL) said: "I am thrilled to once again serve on the House Homeland Security Committee, this time as chairman of the Subcommittee on Emergency Management and Technology. With decades of experience as an EMT and volunteer firefighter, I not only have a frontline perspective on disaster preparedness, but I have immense gratitude for the men and women who keep our communities safe and healthy every day. Sadly, the American people have faced endless crises over the past four years, exposing first responders to increased hazards on the job and revealing inefficiencies in the federal government's response and preparedness when disaster strikes. Working alongside Chairman Green and my colleagues, I am committed to closing those gaps and ensuring emergency management entities are equipped with the best technology, tools, and training to accomplish their essential mission. Let's get to work." On being appointed Chairman of the Subcommittee on Oversight, Investigations, and Accountability, Representative Josh Brecheen (R-OK) said: "I am honored by the opportunity to lead the House Homeland Security Committee's Subcommittee on Oversight, Investigations, and Accountability, especially as we look forward to an administration that will prioritize transparency for the American people. From protecting Americans' civil liberties and defending taxpayer dollars to reducing inefficient bureaucracy, we have a crucial mission to clean up the Biden-Harris administration's mess. Now is the time to restore DHS's mission to secure the homeland. The safety and security of our communities depend on it." The Committee also welcomes five new members: Representatives Andy Ogles (R-TN), Sheri Biggs (R-SC), Gabe Evans (R-CO), Ryan Mackenzie (R-PA), and Brad Knott (R-NC).On joining the Committee, Representative Ogles said: "It is unacceptable that every state has become a border state over the last four years. This Congress, I am grateful for the opportunity to serve on the House Homeland Security Committee and to carry out President Trump's agenda to put the safety of Americans first. From combating human trafficking to keeping dangerous drugs from entering our communities, we have much work to do. I look forward to serving alongside my fellow Tennessean, Chairman Green, as we fulfill this commitment to the American people." Representative Biggs said: "It is an honor to join the House Committee on Homeland Security in its mission to protect our communities, especially as we welcome a new administration that is eager to secure the borders and the homeland. With my leadership service in the Air National Guard and experience working closely with first responders, I look forward to advancing public safety, strengthening our national security posture, and ensuring the Department of Homeland Security is once again accountable to the People." Representative Evans said: "As an Army veteran and a former police officer, I have seen firsthand the threats facing our nation and communities. I am humbled by the opportunity to represent Colorado's Eighth District on a committee with such an important and bipartisan mission. I look forward to working with my Homeland Security Committee colleagues to secure our borders, be a voice for law enforcement and first responders, and end the chaos created by the Biden-Harris administration's failed policies. Coloradans have given us a mandate to put their safety and security first. We are prepared to deliver." Representative Mackenzie said: "I am honored to serve on the House Homeland Security Committee and to help fulfill its mission to secure our borders, combat Communist China's malign influence, and keep our communities safe. I am especially looking forward to ensuring all levels of law enforcement can carry out their sworn duty--from the officers working in Pennsylvania's Seventh District to those defending our borders and protecting our nation's leaders. For the last four years, America has been on the wrong track. I look forward to working with this Committee to correct course and ensure the Department of Homeland Security can accomplish its vital mission." Representative Knott said: "As a prosecutor, I worked alongside all levels of law enforcement to combat human traffickers, drug cartels, and transnational criminal organizations--all of which have become emboldened over the past four years. Harmful open-border policies and weak enforcement of our laws have degraded communities across the country and created a public safety crisis that affects all Americans. I look forward to joining the House Committee on Homeland Security to end the exploitation of our borders and secure our nation from growing public safety threats."
