Truist celebrates 100 years of serving the Knoxville community

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (March 17, 2026) - Truist is celebrating 100 years of serving the Knoxville community, marking a century of deep roots, trusted relationships, and commitment to building better lives and communities across East Tennessee.

A century of local roots

While the Truist name and branding may be newer to Knoxville, the bank's history in the city dates to 1926, when the Bank of Knoxville first opened its doors downtown. Through decades of growth, evolution and change, Truist's presence in Knoxville has remained constant, grounded in local relationships and community investment.

  • "For a century, this bank has grown alongside Knoxville," said Truist Market President for East Tennessee Harry Gross. "Even as our name has changed over the years, our commitment to this community has never wavered. We are proud of our history here and energized about continuing to serve Knoxville for the next 100 years."

Serving people, businesses and communities

Truist's purpose to inspire and build better lives and communities continues to guide its work across Knoxville and the surrounding region. From supporting small and large corporate businesses and nonprofits to investing in financial education and community development, Truist remains focused on helping people and communities thrive.

By the numbers in Knoxville

  • 17 branches in the Knoxville area
  • 30 ATMs
  • No. 2 in deposit market share
  • 450+ volunteer hours from Truist teammates in 2025
  • $250,000+ in grants* over the last two years to support Knoxville communities

Truist Foundation made a $125,000 grant to Roane State Community College Foundation in late 2024 to support its Knox Regional Health Science Education and Simulation Center. The 130,000-square-foot facility is designed to address Tennessee's growing health care workforce shortages.

  • "Tennessee has played an important role in Truist's story, and Knoxville is a cornerstone of that legacy," said Truist Tennessee Regional President Johnny Moore. "This milestone is not just about honoring our past, but about reaffirming our commitment to listen, to lead and to invest in the people and places we serve."

Celebrating the centennial

To commemorate the centennial, Truist will host a private celebration at the Knoxville Museum of Art, bringing together community leaders, clients and partners who have been part of the bank's journey. As part of the celebration, Truist is sponsoring one of the museum's rotating exhibits.

  • "Our support of the arts reflects our belief that vibrant communities depend on creativity and dialogue," Gross said. "Partnering with the Knoxville Museum of Art during this milestone year is a purposeful way to celebrate Knoxville's culture while looking forward together."

*$250,000 includes grants from Truist Foundation, Truist Charitable Fund and Truist CRA.
