The cyberattack that Roularta Media Group (RMG) faced yesterday has been successfully resolved. Thanks to the quick resolution - within 24 hours - the impact for customers has remained very limited. This success is due to the vigilance of the Centre for Cyber Security Belgium (CCB), the lightning-fast response of the IT teams in collaboration with Proximus, The Collective & NTT, and the significant investments the media company has made in cybersecurity in recent years.

Last night, Roularta Media Group reported being the victim of a complex Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack, which overwhelmed its servers with traffic and caused them to crash.

Thanks to the alert issued by the CCB, which immediately informed the media group, and the swift response of the IT teams working closely with IT provider Proximus, The Collective & NTT, the attack was halted within 24 hours. The media group emphasizes that no data breaches occurred.

Limited impact

All company websites, including those of its media brands, and the 'Mijn Magazines' app (which bundles all the group's media brands digitally), are fully accessible again.

Roularta Printing, the largest offset printing company in the Benelux, is also fully operational again and confirms that delays caused by the attack have already been resolved today. Due to the cyberattack, some Knack readers will receive their magazine a day later than usual. There is no impact on the delivery schedule of the other RMG media brands, nor on external print customers.

Standing strong against cyber crime

Jeroen Mouton, COO of Roularta Media Group:

"We are extremely grateful for the alertness and flexibility of our employees and partners, who acted as one strong team. This situation clearly proves that the high investments we've made in cybersecurity over the past years are paying off. This experience strengthens our commitment to maintaining a high level of security in the years to come."
