Iran FM Araghchi sums up first day of diplomatic meetings on sidelines of UNGA session in New York

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi gave a brief account of his meetings in New York on Saturday saying "Today I had meetings with the foreign ministers of Kuwait Bahrain and Cuba as well as the Secretary General of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council and naturally I had serious discussions with them."

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi gave a brief account of his meetings in New York on Saturday, saying "Today, I had meetings with the foreign ministers of Kuwait, Bahrain, and Cuba, as well as the Secretary General of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council, and naturally, I had serious discussions with them."

"Of course, we had very constructive and good discussions on the regional stability and security, and especially the Palestinian issue, Israel's crimes in Gaza and in southern Lebanon, and after all, the fire that can be ignited in the region due to the Zionist regime's policies and the dangers that can affect all countries and we discussed the urgency of dealing with these policies," he added.

"I also held meetings with the UN Secretary General's representative for humanitarian aid to Gaza, the president of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the UN special envoy for Syria, which were three crucial meetings with UN representatives in three important international fields; especially the talks on Syria and Gaza, which are of significance in our region," he added.

The top Iranian diplomat said the humanitarian situation in Gaza, described by the UN officials, is truly unbelievable, given the extent of crimes that have been committed, adding worse than that, the routes to deliver humanitarian aid have all been blocked and they are not allowed to enter and deliver aid.

Araghchi further quoted the UN and ICRC officials as saying the hospitals set up by the Red Cross in Gaza lack facilities and Israel does not let the facilities get in, adding the situation is truly pathetic and they used expressions such as 'Israel has created real hell in Gaza.'

"The interesting point was that everyone in the meetings admitted that despite all the crimes committed and the hell Israel has created, it has not achieved any of its objectives; not in defeating Hamas, not in releasing the captives, and not in achieving international support for itself, although, it has been supported by certain countries, especially the US, and the main obstacle to establishing a ceasefire and stopping the war is the backing by the US and other Western countries," the Iranian foreign minister explained.

He went on to say that "the humanitarian situation in Gaza is very horrible and the situation in the region is dangerous" and called on the international community and the Security Council to deal with this situation, adding "but unfortunately, we see the situation as it is because of the policies adopted by the Western countries."

"These were the discussions we had in the meetings. In my opinion, the international community is now more sensitive than ever to the Zionist regime's truly criminal policies, which is sending not only the region but also beyond the region down to a dangerous path," he warned.

Araghchi said he will hold meetings with foreign ministers and international organizations on Sunday, and the main subjects of the talks are Palestine, Gaza and southern Lebanon, and encouraging the international community and the countries in the world to act responsibly in this regard.
