Travel Advisory: Traffic Pattern Changes Scheduled to Begin August 14 on Route 37 at Route 1 (Post Road) in Warwick and Glen Hills Drive in Cranston

Effective Friday night, August 14, the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) is scheduled to make two traffic pattern changes as part of its ongoing Route 37 Improvements project. These changes will be instituted on Route 1 (Post Road) under Route 37 in Warwick and along Route 37 under Glen Hills Drive in Cranston.

A summary of the changes is as follows:

Route 37 at Post Road: The Route 37 East ramps onto Post Road North will be closed. Traffic will be detoured onto new ramps the Department is building. All Route 37 East traffic will use a temporary traffic signal for access to either Route 1 North or South. This change will be in place until late summer/early fall.

Route 37 at the Glen Hills Drive Overpass: Lanes will be shifted to the right and a work zone will be created in the median area. This new traffic pattern will allow RIDOT to begin construction at this bridge carrying Glen Hills Drive over Route 37. It will be in place through early fall.

These improvements are part of $142.8 million project to replace and rehabilitate six bridges carrying Route 37 over local roads, arterials, and rail lines. As part of the project, RIDOT is permanently removing the Route 37 bridge over Post Road as well as its connecting loop ramps. When complete, all traffic will use a traffic signal instead. Full project completion is scheduled for Summer 2028.

All construction projects are subject to changes in schedule and scope depending on needs, circumstances, findings, and weather
