“City of Champions”: Mayor Bass Highlights Effective Coordinated City Actions To Support Today’s Successful Dodgers World Series Championship Celebrations

An Estimated 250,000 Dodgers Fans Convened in Downtown L.A. for Championship Parade


LOS ANGELES - Mayor Karen Bass highlighted coordinated City actions to support today's successful Dodgers World Series Championship celebrations, including a Championship Parade that brought an estimated 250,000 Dodgers fans to Downtown Los Angeles.

"L.A. is the city of champions, and today's successful celebrations - including a championship parade that brought an estimated 250,000 Dodgers fans to the heart of our city - are a testament to the City's preparedness efforts," said Mayor Bass. "I want to thank all of our City personnel who worked around the clock to ensure today's celebrations were safe and joyful for everyone involved. Go, Dodgers!"

To coordinate all operations and public safety measures for today's celebrations, the Los Angeles City Emergency Operations Center was activated with personnel from more than 20 departments and agencies working together. Yesterday, Mayor Bass and local leaders outlined coordinated support effortsfor today's Dodgers Championship Parade.

The Dodgers Championship Parade began at 11:00 AM this morning with members of the Dodgers traveling atop double-decker buses on the parade route and greeted by an estimated 250,000 fans. Following the parade, the Dodgers held a special ticketed event at Dodger Stadium to celebrate the back-to-back World Series champions.

City Actions to Support Safe, Successful Celebrations

  • To ensure coordinated operations and response before, during, and after the parade, the City's Emergency Operations Center (EOC) activated at Level 2 with more than 20 departments and agencies working together.

  • The LAPD was on heightened alert and had significant and visible officer presence at and around the parade route and near Dodger Stadium.

  • LAPD took proactive action to protect businesses by deploying officers and increasing their visible presence.

  • In keeping with operating procedures for major events, LAPD coordinated closely with local and regional law enforcement partners.

  • LAFD coordinated emergency medical services with the Dodgers' Public Safety Team to address any medical needs.

  • Metrolink, Southern California's regional passenger rail provider that connects to Union Station, increased serviceon the Antelope Valley, Orange County and San Bernardino lines to make it easier for fans from all over the region to participate in the festivities.

  • To support fans traveling to the Dodger stadium event, the Dodger Stadium Express began service at 8:30 AM, running every 5-7 minutes from Union Station.

  • In coordination with the California Highway Patrol and LAPD, Caltrans closed the left turn pockets at the Temple Street offramps from northbound Interstate 110 and southbound US 101. Additionally, the northbound and southbound I-110 offramps to 6th Street and 5th Street onramps to northbound and southbound to I-110 were closed.

  • LADOT Special Traffic Operations prepared traffic management plans for the parade route, including street closures and detours to ensure the safety of participants and spectators.

  • More than 125 white glove traffic officers were deployed to manage car flow and improve traffic safety around the parade route and Dodger Stadium celebration.

  • The Automated Transportation Systems and Coordination (ATSAC) Center monitored congestion at key intersections to adjust signal timing in response to changing traffic conditions near the parade route and throughout Los Angeles.

  • Employers were encouraged to allow for remote work and/or adjusted schedules, as appropriate. Workers were also encouraged to take public transit if working in the downtown area.
