At 6:12 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20, the Columbia Fire Department (CFD) responded to reports of a fire in the area of Stone Hill Drive. The 911 caller reported seeing smoke and believed it may have been a wildland or outside fire.
CFD crews arrived within four minutes and discovered a one-story concrete residence set back from the roadway and surrounded by heavy brush. Firefighters immediately secured a water supply, stretched hose lines and began fire suppression efforts to contain the flames.
Under heavy fire conditions, ladder company crews forced entry through windows and began searching the home for possible occupants. Despite the challenges, the search of the entire structure-including the basement-was completed in less than ten minutes. No victims were found inside.
The fire was brought under control in approximately 30 minutes. No injuries were reported to either the public or firefighters.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Columbia Fire Marshal's Battalion. Motorists should be aware that traffic may continue to be restricted along Stone Hill Drive and Old 63 Highway while fire crews complete their work.
