Warren Statement on First Proposed Rule to Implement New Bipartisan Law Banning Large Institutional Investors From Buying Up Single-Family Homes

Washington, DC - United States Senator Elizabeth Warren, Ranking Member of the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, issued the following statement after the Department of the Treasury issued its first proposed rule on implementation of the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act:

"Huge bipartisan majorities in Congress passed our bill to boost housing supply, bring down costs, and, for the first time ever, stop private equity from buying up single-family homes. Donald Trump refused to sign the biggest housing affordability bill in over 30 years, but it became law anyway. Now his Administration is responsible for implementing it. Today's proposed rule starts that process for reining in large institutional investors, but the work is far from done. Congress will be watching closely to ensure the Trump Administration finalizes strong final rules without loopholes for corporate landlords that drive up costs for renters and families trying to buy a home."
