Congressman Keith Self (TX-03), House Freedom Caucus Chairman Congressman Andy Harris (MD-01), and Senator Rick Scott (FL) penned an op-ed demanding meaningful reform to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) ahead of the June 12th expiration of Section 702.
The lawmakers draw a direct parallel between today's unchecked surveillance state and the general warrants and writs of assistance issued by the British Crown that helped spark the American Revolution. They argue that FISA has become a domestic surveillance machine that treats the Fourth Amendment as an inconvenience rather than the supreme law of the land.
The op-ed rejects a "clean" reauthorization of Section 702 and insists on key reforms before any extension:
Require Warrants for Backdoor Searches: Mandate probable cause warrants for queries of Americans' communications in 702 databases, with narrow exceptions only for imminent threats.
The full op-ed is available at Fox News here.
