On 9 October 2025, the European Union (EU) Political and Security Committee (EU PSC) and the African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council (AU PSC) will hold their 16th Annual Joint Consultative Meeting, as part of their regular dialogue within the framework of the AU-EU Partnership.
The meeting will be co-chaired by H.E. Ambassador Delphine Pronk, Permanent Chair of the EU PSC, and H.E. Ambassador Tebelelo A. Boang, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Botswana and Chairperson of the AU PSC for October 2025. The agenda will cover a number of peace and security situations and thematic areas of common interest on peace and security. This year, the African Union and European Union celebrate 25 years of their unique and successful partnership. The Africa-EU Partnership was formally established in 2000 at the first Africa-EU Summit in Cairo. The formal political agreement between the two organisations has provided invaluable opportunities for the two continents to develop their ties. The 16th EU PSC-to-AU PSC high-level meeting follows the 3rd EU-AU Ministerial on 21 May 2025 in Brussels and takes place shortly before the 7th EU-AU Summit to be held on 24-25 November in Luanda.
These annual meetings reaffirm the commitment of both Unions to further strengthen their strategic partnership and cooperation in the promotion of peace, security and stability. Both sides share a strong belief in effective multilateral cooperation and in the need to reform international institutions to collectively address shared global challenges, as well as an unwavering commitment to act in accordance with international law, with the Charter of the United Nations at its core.
The EU and Africa maintain long-standing cooperation on peace, security and governance, as well as, a strong partnership on AU peace support operations and the Regional Economic Communities/Regional Mechanisms and, more generally, on the African Peace and Security Architecture.
