MINERAL, Calif. - Effective at 12:01 a.m. local time on Friday, July 31, 2026, Lassen Volcanic National Park will implement Stage 2 fire restrictions. The restrictions apply throughout the park, including all campgrounds within boundaries, and will remain in effect until rescinded.

The restrictions are based on the current National Interagency Fire Center preparedness level, fire weather forecasts, and recommendations from the U.S. Wildland Fire Service. Protecting visitors, employees, and park resources remains the park's highest priority.

Under Stage 2 fire restrictions, the following activities are prohibited:

  • Building, maintaining, attending, or using open fires, campfires, or stove fires.
  • Smoking except within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site, or an area at least 3 feet in diameter that is cleared to mineral soil.
  • Welding or operating torches.
  • Operating an internal or external combustion engine without a properly installed, maintained, and functioning spark arresting device.
The following are exempt from these restrictions:
  • Self-contained propane or petroleum camp stoves and lanterns.
  • Persons with a permit that specifically authorizes an otherwise prohibited activity.
  • Resident owners and lessees of land within the restricted area, provided fires are contained within the residence.
  • Federal, state, or local officers and members of organized firefighting forces performing official duties.
The National Park Service appreciates the public's cooperation in helping reduce the risk of wildfire and protect Lassen Volcanic National Park.
