National Survey Finds Employers Widely Satisfied with Transparency, Flexibility, and Savings Provided by PBMs

A survey of nearly 700 employers across the country conducted by NORC at the University of Chicago found that employers are widely satisfied with the transparency, flexibility, and savings provided by pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs).

PBMs remain committed to innovating and improving services to employers, providing flexibility, and transparent information, and new ways to manage drug costs. Learn more HERE.

Key findings from the NORC survey include:

  • Employers Are Satisfied with Their PBMs: Employers expressed high satisfaction with PBMs across key performance areas.
  • Employers Value the Flexibility to Design Their Own Coverage: Employers are highly confident in their ability to select drug benefits, prioritizing employee costs and access.
  • PBM-Secured Rebates Are Used to the Benefit of Employees: Many employers use rebates to lower employees' costs.
    • The survey found that 90 percent of employers who received rebates in the past 12 months used them to offset overall prescription drug benefit costs.

The survey reflects what business owners have shared in their own voices and underscores the findings of past employer surveys - employers are overwhelmingly satisfied with their PBMs and choose to hire them because of the flexibility and options they provide. Employers choose how to pay their PBM and how to design their pharmacy benefits in a way that meets the unique needs of their employees and their families.
