MAN Engines supplies propulsion system for the hybrid yacht Benetti B.Neos

With the world premiere of the B.Neos, Benetti presents the latest generation of its 40-metre motor yachts - equipped with a hybrid drive available as standard for the first time. The B.Neos presented in Cannes in 2025 is now followed by the details of the innovative drive system from MAN Engines: With the new hybrid drive, the MAN Smart HYBRID Experience is presented for the first time as a standard component of the drive concept and also takes the innovative B.Neos into a new dimension in the powertrain.

As the exclusive drive supplier for this project, MAN Engines is bringing its most modern drive system on board - the MAN Smart HYBRID Experience as a combination of proven high-performance diesel technology and an integrated electric motor. "Together with MAN Engines, we were able to implement a hybrid concept that is perfectly integrated into the architecture of the B.Neos and thus defines a new technical level in yacht building," says Alessandro Rossi, Chief Technical Officer at Benetti Yachts.

In the hybrid train of the B.Neos, two MAN V8-900 with 662 kW (900 hp) and two 200 kW electric engines work together. The overall system meets the requirements of the IMO Tier III emissions directive through the use of the MAN SCR system, thus ensuring significantly reduced emissions. The flexible combination of combustion and electric motors enables the B.Neos to offer the range of different operating modes that has become the central decision-making feature for a hybrid drive for many owners today. The battery-electric drive stands out in particular. This means that local emissions can be almost completely avoided when cruising or anchoring in ports, bays or even specially regulated zones. This means an almost silent experience on the water. And this in hotel operation for many hours depending on the installed battery capacity. The combination of quiet and emission-free electric operation when sailing and anchoring and the high efficiency for long range significantly shapes the character of the new B.Neos.

In addition, other intelligent hybrid modes such as the efficient cross-over mode are available. In this model, drive, genset and electric motors are optimally matched to each other to increase efficiency, range and comfort.

The hybrid drive of this modern luxury yacht helps define the next level of the yachting lifestyle. It creates the calm, decelerated way of travelling that many customers appreciate about this yacht segment. At the same time, the MAN Smart HYBRID Experience offers the reliability that MAN Engines is accustomed to, which is ensured by extensive testing of the system during development.

In addition to the technological basis, one focus of the project was on customer-specific adaptations. "The MAN Smart HYBRID Experience is the result of close cooperation with Benetti, which ensures robust software and seamless interface functions for certain drive groups - all perfectly integrated into the B.Neos system architecture and tailored to the needs of customers," says Reiner Roessner, Head of Sales MAN Engines.

For end customers, this means tangible advantages: a clearly structured system that can be easily integrated into everyday life on board by the captain: reliable power provision in all driving conditions, lower noise levels and fewer vibrations, as well as the possibility of enjoying longer stays in emission-sensitive areas with a high level of comfort. At the same time, owners benefit not only from reduced fuel consumption and greater overall efficiency, but also from a significant simplification of energy management on board. This makes the MAN Smart HYBRID Experience a future-proof drive concept that meets the high technological expectations of yacht users.

The B.Neos thus not only marks another milestone in the history of Benetti, but also an important step for the use of fully integrated hybrid systems from a single source in luxury yachts. With the hybrid propulsion system from MAN Engines, the yacht B.Neos will have a modern, high-performance heart designed for the long term - perfectly integrated into the design philosophy and future orientation of the new B.Neos.
