On April 24, Ambassador Fan Yong and his wife Counselor Cui Yin attended the 25th Botswana Final of the "Chinese Bridge" Competition for Foreign College Students. Mr. Dintle Sparkie Rapoo, representative of the Ministry of Higher Education, Prof. Maria Nnyepi, Deputy Vice Chancellor of UB, Dr. Tsaone S. Mokgwathi, Local Director of the Confucius Institute of BIUST, Prof. Pu Durong, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute of UB participated in the event.
Ambassador Fan noted that the "Chinese Bridge" Competition is a stage for showcasing Chinese language proficiency and a platform for exchanges among civilizations. This year marks the "China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges" as well as the beginning of a new 50-year chapter in China-Botswana relations. He encouraged more young people in Botswana to learn Chinese, better understand Chinese culture, and become a new force for promoting China-Botswana friendship.
College students from UB, BIUST and other universities participated in this competition. This event was hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Botswana and organized by the Confucius Institute at UB.
