AEP Ohio Hosts Open House To Discuss Electric Transmission Improvements in Meigs and Athens Counties

GAHANNA, Ohio - AEP Ohio representatives have announced plans to upgrade the electric transmission grid and improve reliability for customers in Meigs and Athens counties.

The Bryson Switch - Coolville Transmission Improvements Project involves:

• Building approximately 11 miles of 69-kilovolt (kV) transmission line between Bryson Switch, close to the intersection of U.S. Route 33 and Rocksprings Road in north central Meigs County, and Coolville Substation, located off Old State Road in southeast Athens County.
• Rebuilding approximately 12 miles of 69-kV transmission line.
• Upgrading Coolville Substation.

Landowners and community members are invited to an open house to learn more and share input, particularly on study segments under consideration for the new power line. The public event takes place on Wednesday, Feb. 4, from 5-7 p.m. in the gymnasium at Coolville Elementary School, 26461 Main St., Coolville. There is no formal presentation, so attendees can arrive any time during the event.

This project enhances electric service reliability for customers by increasing capacity with an additional source of power. Replacing aging infrastructure from the 1960s with modern equipment provides operational flexibility on the system to reroute power and accelerate restoration during outages.

Landowners and community members who can't attend may visit a virtual open house at AEPOhio.com/BrysonCoolville to access project information, view an interactive map and submit comments by Friday, Feb. 20.

AEP Ohio representatives encourage landowners to provide input to help the company determine a final proposed power line route that minimizes impacts to the community and environment.

Company officials expect construction to begin in summer 2028 and conclude by fall 2029.
