Sedgwick Road/SR 160 in Port Orchard reopens early, as fish passage work nears completion

PORT ORCHARD - Sedgwick Road/State Route 160 in Port Orchard reopened to all travelers at 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 3, after completion of a new bridge over Salmonberry Creek.

The section of highway between Blackberry Hill Lane Southeast and Long Lake Road Southeast was originally expected to reopen in late October.

The road closed June 15, allowing contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation to remove an outdated 60-foot long, 48-inch diameter pipe culvert. Once the culvert was removed, crews replaced it with a bridge. The SR 160 closure allowed the contractor to shorten the project's timeline and limit the effects on the environment.

Construction is now largely complete at Salmonberry Creek. Over the next few weeks, crews will wrap up smaller items, such as planting.

Travelers can receive email updates about roadwork on state highways in Kitsap County. Real-time information is available via the WSDOT app and WSDOT Travel Center Map.

About fish passage construction
State highways cross over rivers and streams in thousands of locations throughout Washington. Some crossings can impede fish migration.

WSDOT has worked for nearly three decades to improve fish passage and reconnect streams to help keep waterways healthy. A 2013 federal injunction also directed WSDOT to significantly speed up efforts to remove barriers to fish migration within the injunction area in western Washington.
