WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, U.S. Representative John McGuire (VA-05) introduced a resolution recognizing January as National Human Trafficking Prevention Month, reaffirming the United States' commitment to ending all forms of human trafficking.
"Human trafficking is a heinous crime that strips individuals of their dignity, freedom, and safety," said Rep. John McGuire (VA-05). "By recognizing January as National Human Trafficking Prevention Month, we reaffirm our commitment to protecting the most vulnerable, holding traffickers accountable, and ensuring survivors have the resources they need to heal and rebuild their lives. We must remain united and vigilant in our efforts to eradicate human trafficking in all its forms. My Navy SEAL team and I fought human trafficking back in the day, as a Virginia State Representative, I introduced legislation to stiffen penalties for those who traffic humans, especially children, and I'm continuing that fight to eradicate human trafficking in Congress."
Human trafficking is a grave violation of human rights that affects communities in every state and territory. This resolution underscores the importance of prevention, survivor support, public awareness, and strong partnerships between federal, state, and local governments, law enforcement, nonprofit organizations, and community leaders.
