WFTU STATEMENT AGAINST THE ATTACK ON THE FREEDOM FLOTILLA, AGAINST THE GENOCIDE OF THE PALESTINIAN PEOPLE

The World Federation of Trade Unions strongly condemns the attack carried out by the Israeli army against the Freedom Flotilla and the international activists involved in a humanitarian mission bound for Gaza.

The assault on civilian vessels carrying medicines, medical supplies, and humanitarian aid intended for a population subjected to bombardment, starvation, and systematic destruction constitutes a grave crime against the Palestinian people and against all those mobilizing in solidarity with them.

The aggression carried out in international waters once again demonstrates the arrogance and total sense of impunity with which the Israeli government acts, strengthened by the political, economic, and military protection guaranteed by the United States, the European Union, and their allied Western governments.

The images and testimonies emerging from the flotilla reveal an extremely serious escalation of repression. Targeting unarmed activists and humanitarian missions means attempting to intimidate and criminalize every form of international solidarity with the Palestinian people.
While Gaza continues to be devastated by bombings, siege, and starvation, the European Union and Western governments remain silent and complicit. Not only do they refuse to suspend economic and military relations with Israel, but they even attack those who attempt to break the siege and bring aid to the Palestinian population.

The WFTU denounces the hypocrisy of the imperialist powers that continue to present themselves as defenders of "human rights" and "democracy" while openly supporting colonial occupation, apartheid, and the genocide of the Palestinian people.

What happened to the Freedom Flotilla represents another step in the destruction of every principle of international law. It openly affirms the logic that military force replaces every shared rule and every principle of international legality.

In the face of this barbarism, the international class-oriented trade union movement has the duty to intensify mobilization.
The WFTU reaffirms its full solidarity with the Palestinian people and with the activists of the flotilla and calls on affiliated unions and workers' organizations around the world to strengthen: mobilizations against the genocide in Gaza; boycott campaigns against Israel; actions to block the production and transport of weapons; internationalist solidarity initiatives; pressure on governments complicit in occupation and war.

The struggle of the Palestinian people is a struggle for freedom, against colonialism, occupation, and imperialism.
The World Federation of Trade Unions will continue to stand with people resisting war and all forms of oppression.

Free Palestine.
