CMS to provide Medicare Part D beneficiaries with $50 monthly access to certain GLP-1 medications

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services announced May 6 that it will provide access to certain glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) medications to eligible Medicare Part D beneficiaries for $50 per month beginning July 1 this year through Dec. 31, 2027. The program will be conducted under the agency's short-term demonstration, the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge. The demonstration is tied to CMS' Better Approaches to Lifestyle and Nutrition for Comprehensive hEalth Model, or BALANCE, which is designed to increase access to GLP-1 medications and other healthy lifestyle interventions.
