As the finishing touches go into the new East Tampa/Fair Oaks Recreation Complex, the original building of Fair Oaks Park came down Friday.
Construction crews demolished the facility this week as they finalize the 10.25-acre redevelopment and expansion project which began in April 2024. With dedicated classroom space for senior and youth programming, indoor and outdoor basketball courts, pickleball courts, a multi-purpose sports field, walking trails, a splash pad, and much more - the 33,000 square foot complex underscores one of the largest public investments in East Tampa.
Longtime and new Fair Oaks parkgoers will have the opportunity to participate in the grand opening of the main building this fall. Other outdoor amenities will be opened to the public in phases.
The total cost of the new East Tampa/Fair Oaks Recreation Complex comes in at approximately $34.7-million. East Tampa also boasts the new 160,000-square-foot City Center at Hanna Avenue - a centralized location for a variety of city departments and public services. Combined, the investments are meant to spur economic development, uplift surrounding neighborhoods, and bring quality services to historically underserved areas of the city.
