Banca d'Italia is reporting the online circulation of new false images, videos and articles that unlawfully use the name and image of the Governor, Fabio Panetta. These materials portray him, in a completely fabricated manner, as taking part in well-known television programmes or other media contexts, sometimes in association with the promotion of investment platforms and likely aimed at committing fraud.
Some of this content is also created using artificial intelligence techniques, known as deepfakes, to produce and spread false messages in a more convincing way.
None of the statements or events depicted in these images, videos or articles corresponds to reality, including where explicit references are made to Banca d'Italia. None of this content has been authorised by Banca d'Italia.
Should you encounter such materials, we advise you to:
To safeguard its interests, protect the public and prevent unlawful use of its name, the Bank requests that the relevant online platforms remove new false and fraudulent content whenever it is detected. A formal complaint has already been lodged with the competent Authorities.
