Statement by Palazzo Chigi on the situation in Iran
It is with strong concern that the Italian Government is following the current situation in Iran and the news coming in of numerous deaths among the protesters. Italy calls on the Iranian authorities to ensure respect for the population's rights, including those of expression and of peaceful assembly, and the safety of people protesting in the streets.
Together with its European and G7 partners, the Italian Government is continuing to work towards a positive solution to the crisis, which respects the Iranian people's aspirations for freedom and equal rights.
