BY THE NUMBERS: Democrats Made Historic Inroads Across the Country, Fueling Blue Wave Arrow

On Tuesday, Democrats swept elections up and down the ballot across the country, from New York City to Virginia and New Jersey to Pennsylvania to California to Georgia to Maine. Democrats won these tough races because we ran strong candidates focused on what matters most to Americans - affordability and kitchen table issues.

With these victories, Democrats have now won or overperformed in nearly 90% of key races this year.

Democrats will enter 2026 with strong momentum heading into the midterms, as the DNC continues to invest in organizing and building power across the country.

Here are some key takeaways - by the numbers:

  • In Virginia, Abigail Spanberger's margin of victory was the largest Democratic victory margin in more than 60 years. Spanberger won Loudoun County by nearly 30 points and slashed Trump's inroads with Latino voters in Manassas and Manassas Park.
  • In Virginia, Democrats also Democrats won their largest majority in the Virginia House of Delegates in nearly 40 years.
  • In New Jersey, Mikie Sherrill broke the all-time record for most votes in a New Jersey gubernatorial race.
  • In New Jersey, every single county voted more Democratic than in 2024.
  • In New Jersey, Sherrill won Latino voters by a 2-to-1 margin.
  • In Pennsylvania, Philadelphia's collar counties saw their highest turnout for an off-year election since 2011.
    • Montgomery County turnout was 7 points higher than the next highest off-year election turnout.
    • In Bucks County, where Democrats swept all five row offices, turnout was up nearly 7 points from 2023. This was the first time Democrats swept every county seat in Bucks County.
    • Chester and Delaware Counties hit record high turnout for an off-year election.
  • In New York City, more than two million New Yorkers voted in the election - the largest number since the 1969 mayoral race.
  • In Georgia, Democrats won our first non-federal statewide race in nearly 20 years and flipped a whopping 17 counties that voted for Trump in each of the past three presidential elections.
  • In North Carolina, Democrats flipped numerous mayorships and local council seats in critical counties, flipping the mayorships of Burlington and Graham in Alamance County and defeating a 6-term Republican incumbent in Wake Forest. Kimberly Owens also flipped a seat on the Charlotte City Council that had been held by Republicans for more than a decade.
  • In Michigan, more Detroiters turned out than in any municipal election since 2013.
