Starting on Monday, March 30 at 9 a.m., the center lanes of 8th Street will close south of Motor City Drive, along with lane restrictions north of Motor City Drive to Abbot Lane.
This means no turns left will be allowed between 8th Street and Motor City Drive. North of Motor City Drive, the lane closure shifts to the east lane of 8th Street up to Abbot Lane. One lane of traffic will be open in both directions of 8th Street in this area.
During the left-turn closures, the following detours will be in place:
The lane closures and turn restrictions will be in place for about 12 weeks. They are necessary so crews can replace a 24-inch water main under that section of 8th Street. As part of this phase, the Mountain Metro bus stop in front of Walmart on northbound 8th Street will be moved temporarily to just north of Abbot Lane, in front of the Shell gas station.
Additional traffic impacts are anticipated to begin in approximately six weeks, as construction progresses and work advances further north along 8th Street. Specific details regarding those additional lane closures and restrictions will be shared closer to that time.
Access to local businesses remains open and clearly always marked. Motorists are asked to slow down and use caution around work zones.
