Peoria Man Charged in July Shooting of Ex-Girlfriend

September 22, 2025, Peoria, IL - Today, a Peoria County Judge ordered Jaquon L. Timothy, 23, to remain in custody while awaiting trial on Aggravated Battery with a Firearm. Timothy was charged last week in connection with the July shooting of his ex-girlfriend, which was allegedly carried out as a way to prove his love to his new girlfriend.

On July 19, 2025, around 1:30 a.m., officers responded to a Shotspotter alert in the 2300 block of W. Starr Street in South Peoria. Upon arrival, they located the victim, who had sustained gunshot wounds to her feet.

Officers spoke to Timothy's current girlfriend, and she reported that Timothy had told her before the shooting that he would shoot his ex-girlfriend. She further noted that after the shooting, Timothy told her he had carried it out.

A search warrant executed on Timothy's phone revealed a text message claiming ownership of the shooting. Timothy was arrested on September 18, 2025.

This investigation is ongoing. If you have information regarding this incident, please contact the Peoria Police Department at 309-673-4521.
