USDA Rural Development Texas State Director Joins Local Leaders to Break Ground on $660,000 Project to Enhance, Modernize Zapata County Sheriff’s Office

(Zapata, Texas, Sept. 2, 2026) - U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Texas State Director James Redfield recently joined Zapata County officials and other stakeholders to break ground on a project to improve the Zapata County Sheriff's Office.

Rural Development programs provide rural communities with the capital they need to grow, strengthen their infrastructure, and build a stronger future. It is an honor to serve in a role that allows me to play a small part in advancing the Administration's priority of bringing renewed prosperity and opportunity to rural communities here in Texas," said Redfield.

The Phase 1 improvements to the sheriff's office, funded by a $660,000 Community Facilities Program grant, will include a 1,520-square-foot improvement and expansion area that reorganizes the western portion of the facility and provides additional administrative and support spaces. In addition to the new construction, the project includes cosmetic improvements to the offices, work rooms, corridors, and support spaces within the project area.
