Notice of Active Discharge of Untreated Wastewater - Eno Creek Lift Station

DURHAM, N.C. - Due to flooding-related damage to the Eno Creek Lift Station, 5.8 million gallons of wastewater has bypassed the lift station and flowed into Eno River. This spill is active and untreated wastewater continues to flow into Eno River.

Residents should avoid any flowing or standing water in the Eno River downstream of the Eno Creek Lift Station and assume such waters are contaminated. The Eno Creek Lift Station is located just north of Teer Quarry off of Denfield Street.

Due to the flooding, crews couldn't get to the lift station to assess damage and operation of the facility until the stormwater receded on the afternoon of July 8.

The City of Durham notified the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality's Division of Water Resources about the discharge on July 8.
