Hazardous Materials Response to the 1700 Block of Villa StreetFirefighters respond to reports of a Hazardous Materials incidentPost Date:07/14/2025 2:36 p.m. On Monday, July 14 at 11:54 a.m., a 9-1-1 call was received by the City of Mountain View Fire Department (MVFD) reporting a pool technician mixed chlorine and muriatic acid in the swimming pool equipment room of a multi-family residence in the 1700 block of Villa Street. The mixture resulted in an inhalation exposure of toxic fumes, which caused the pool technician to self-transport to local urgent care before firefighters arrived. Fire units were dispatched at 11:55 a.m. and arrived on the scene at 11:59 a.m. The MVFD response included one Battalion Chief, Engine 54, Engine 55, Truck 51, and Hazardous Materials (HazMat) Unit 55. The Mountain View Police Department provided traffic control for one hour while fire units and equipment were on the scene. The MVFD HazMat team conducted tests and confirmed that the chemicals released were not toxic and ensured there was no active leaking of chemicals coming from the pool maintenance equipment. A fire inspector/environmental specialist from the MVFD was requested to the scene to ensure there was no runoff to the storm and sewer drain. There were no reports of additional injuries. The scene was turned over to facilities management to ensure the pool system is operational before reopening to the residents.
