Donald Trump can't stop lying about his record on affordability. On Monday, the White House issued a press release citing new DoorDash data to claim that Trump had "tamed" inflation. But in reality, DoorDash's own data reveals that prices are rising.
Last week, Trump pushed another false claim when he said that Walmart's Thanksgiving meal basket this year is "25% cheaper" than the 2024 version. But a closer inspection reveals that this year's basket contains significantly fewer items. Americans are paying more for less under Trump's economy, and they are sick of Trump's lies.
In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:
"While working families struggle to make ends meet, Trump continues to spew lies about his disastrous economy. It's no wonder Trump has to lie through his teeth - there's no way to defend an economy wrought with rising inflation and mass layoffs. Everyday Americans are reeling from financial strain under Trump's economy - the least he could do is acknowledge the pain working families are experiencing. But he'd rather ignore their concerns, falsely declare victory on 'the greatest economy in history,' and focus on building his gilded ballroom."
Trump has wrecked the economy. Maybe that's why he's focusing instead on his self-proclaimed "greatest strength" - building his gilded ballroom. Last month saw the highest number of job cuts for any October in over two decades, and consumer sentiment fell for the fourth consecutive month, sinking to its second-lowest level on record. It's no wonder polling shows that nearly two-thirds of voters think Trump has worsened the economy, and 72% indicated that the economy is in poor shape.
