WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) released the following statement on the election of Donald Trump as the next President of the United States:
"Foundational to our democracy is the right for people to make their voices heard at the ballot box, and last night the American people elected Donald Trump. While neither I nor a majority of Granite Staters voted for him, we must now work together on a bipartisan basis to tackle the critical issues that people are facing.
"We also must stay focused on the mission statement laid out in our Declaration of Independence - that all Americans are created equal and deserve equal protection under the law. People of differing backgrounds, political beliefs, and zip codes will need to work together to uphold these ideals and protect our Constitution.
"What was true before the election remains true today: I will continue my commitment to listening to all of my constituents, no matter who they voted for, and working with my colleagues across the aisle to find common ground and deliver results. And I continue to be grateful for Granite Staters and Americans across the country who exercise their right to vote, speak up for what they believe in, and work to make a difference."
