Headline: George Washington Memorial Parkway is planning to close multiple park areas and facilities starting Sunday, January 25 due to expected winter weather

Due to winter weather impacts, George Washington Memorial Parkway is planning to close multiple park areas and facilities starting Sunday, January 25, for visitor safety and to allow crews to address hazardous conditions, including snow and ice. The following sites and areas are planned for closure through the duration of the storm and subsequent clean-up:

Great Falls Park; Clara Barton National Historic Site; Parkway Headquarters; Turkey Run Park and South Turkey Run Area; Fort Marcy; Theodore Roosevelt Island and parking lot; Arlington Ridge, including the U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial and the Netherlands Carillon; Arlington House, The Robert E. Lee Memorial and associated facilities (closure will begin Saturday at 2:00 PM due to the closure of Arlington National Cemetery); Columbia Island; Gravelly Point; Roaches Run; Dangerfield Island; Jones Point Park parking lot and restroom; Belle Haven Marina, Belle Haven Park, and Dyke Marsh; Collingwood picnic areas; Riverside Park; Fort Hunt; and all pullouts, overlooks, and parking lots along the parkways.

Emergency personnel will prioritize emergency access, main roadways, and high-use corridors, including the George Washington Memorial Parkway, Spout Run Parkway, Clara Barton Parkway, Memorial Avenue and Circle, Arlington Memorial Bridge, the USPP District 2 Substation parking lot, and all side roads within the park's jurisdiction. Crews have begun pretreating roadways and will continue snow and ice removal throughout the duration of the event, coordinating closely with partner agencies and emergency personnel.

Areas will reopen as soon as conditions are safe. For the latest updates, visitors should check www.nps.gov/gwmp and GWMP social media channels. Next update expected: Monday, January 26, once the storm event has concluded.
