SWCC Board approves new criminal justice instructor

Creston, IA-During a special session of the Southwestern Community College (SWCC) board of directors on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2025, at 8:30 a.m. in the board room of the college's Administration Center, the board approved the employment of Laurie McCown as a criminal justice instructor for the balance of the 2024-25 academic year.

McCown, an experienced attorney, has worked as an assistant attorney general for the state of Iowa and a cybersecurity and digital forensics expert for the U.S. Department of State. She has been an adjunct instructor at Drake University in Des Moines.

She holds a J.D. Law degree from Drake University, as well as a Master of Science degree in cybersecurity from Western Governors University in Millcreek, Utah.

McCown will start instructing in the classroom during the spring 2025 semester, which begins on Monday, Jan. 13.
