Wrights Spring Fire reaches 46,769 acres with zero containment as crews battle growth

Firefighters are working to stop the southeasterly spread of the Wrights Spring Fire, which has grown to 46,769 acres since being detected on August 5. The lightning-caused fire remains at 0% containment, with 555 personnel assigned to the incident.

On Sunday, the fire remained active as it moved southeast along Bliss Road near Round Mountain. Overnight, crews used heavy equipment to build new lines extending east and west from Bliss Road to protect the Bly Mountain area. Firefighters also successfully used "strategic burning," intentional, controlled fires, to secure barriers along the northern end of Saddle Mountain.

On Monday, crews are focused on the following priorities:

• Stopping Movement: Improving bulldozer lines along Bliss Road and Skeen Ranch Road to block the fire's path to the southeast.
• Protecting Communities: Holding established lines to prevent the fire from moving toward the communities of Chiloquin and Sprague River.
• Securing Barriers: A new bulldozer line has been completed north of Peter Steiner Road, tying into Horton Reservoir. This provides a strategic gap between the flames and nearby homes.

Firefighters and equipment are being strategically placed ahead of the fire's movement. Protective measures are focused on the Saddle Mountain and Elde Street areas to the north, as well as fire-impacted areas along Skeen Mountain Road to the south and east. Crews are also assessing homes in the Bly Mountain area on both sides of Highway 140 and scouting the Swan Lake area for more opportunities to defend buildings.

Conditions are expected to be warm, very dry, and breezy through Tuesday. Temperatures in the valleys could reach the low 90s, with humidity levels dropping as low as 11%. Residents can track the current smoke levels and air quality outlook at the official smoke forecast site.

Evacuation levels have recently changed for the Sprague River community and areas surrounding the fire. Residents should check their specific status on the Klamath County evacuation map.

Closures and Restrictions

• Roads: Sprague River Road is closed between milepost 9 and Sprague River Drive. Bliss Road is closed from Peter Steiner Road to Sprague River.

• Drones: A Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) is in effect. Flying unauthorized drones near the fire is illegal and will ground all firefighting aircraft immediately.
