The Commission's view on the National Security Strategy of the USA
Priority question for written answer P-004945/2025/rev.1
to the Commission
Rule 144
Branko Grims (PPE)
In November 2025, the United States published its National Security Strategy. It makes clear that Europe remains an extremely important strategic partner for the US.
The US points out that continental Europe's share of global GDP has fallen from 25% to only 14% today as a result of over-regulation. The Americans want Europe to unlock its development potential.
As a specific objective, the US strategy targets ending all mass migration. They stressed that they want Europe to remain European and to maintain its civilisational self-confidence.
I have the following questions for the Commission:
-
1.What is the Commission's assessment of the US National Security Strategy in so far as it relates to Europe?
-
2.What action will the Commission take to prevent the harmful consequences of the regulatory, migration and other policies pursued to date - which the US has rightly drawn attention to - in order to ensure the security and prosperity of all citizens of EU Member States and the robustness of continued strategic cooperation with the US, which is in the EU's strategic interest in terms of security, civilisation and development?
-
3.Will the Commission also draw up its own new strategic documents to reflect the fundamentally changed international situation, and do it in such a way as to effectively unleash its full development potential and strengthen the competitiveness of EU businesses, thereby permanently restoring its global influence and its security?
