Utilities program allows Columbians to subscribe to solar power

City of Columbia Utilities recognizes that many residents want access to solar power but face barriers to investing in it.

Now, residents can get local, renewable energy without installing solar panels.

Utilities' Community Solar program offers residential electric customers access to renewable energy through a subscription model program.

The goal is to make renewable energy more directly accessible to customers who may be unable to access it because they rent, own homes that are not ideal for solar or do not want to install a system.

Customers can reserve one block of solar power (1.5 kilowatts) through 2044. Those customers will receive a credit on their monthly bills reflecting the energy generated by the Bernadette Solar Field and the Truman Solar Farm.

Residents will have a one-time registration fee of $27 and a monthly subscription fee of $24.77. Customers can unsubscribe at any time without penalty.
