DC Housing Authority Statement on Federal Funding Freeze

January 29, 2025 9:20 PM

WASHINGTON, D.C. [Jan. 29, 2024] -The DC Housing Authority (DCHA) wants to assure our Public Housing residents, Housing Choice Voucher Program families and our landlord partners that the recent actions by the White House's Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to temporarily freeze federal assistance do not appear to immediately impact our core programs.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) confirmed yesterday that Public Housing Authorities will receive federal February tenant-based rental assistance as scheduled. DCHA's disbursement of February rental subsidy payments to District landlords will follow normal operations.

DCHA will continue to monitor the situation as it evolves, and work with our partners at HUD to obtain clarity and guidance on any impact on our operations. As we learn more, we will continue to provide updates to our stakeholders.

DCHA is aware of:

  • OMB's clarification issued Jan. 28 that said, "Funds for small businesses, farmers, Pell grants, Head Start, rental assistance, and other similar programs will not be paused."
  • U.S. District Judge Loren L. AliKhan's order issued Jan. 28 that temporarily halts the federal funding freeze until 5:00 p.m. Feb. 3.
