Chiara Izzi Quartet Brings the Music of Brazil and Italy to Stony Brook Southampton

Acclaimed jazz vocalist and composer Chiara Izzi brings her quartet to the Avram Theater at Stony Brook Southampton for the latest performance in The Jazz Loft @ Southampton Concert Series on Thursday, January 29 at 7 pm.

At the crossroads of samba, bossa nova, and Italian song, the program celebrates the vibrant musical exchange between Brazil and Italy in the 1960s and '70s. It features works by Brazilian masters such as Antonio Carlos Jobim, Dorival Caymmi, and Djavan, alongside rarely heard Italian samba songs born from historic collaborations with Toquinho, Vinicius de Moraes, and leading Italian artists. Interwoven throughout the performance are original compositions by Izzi, inspired by these Brazilian influences and offering a contemporary, personal voice.

A Montreux Jazz Festival Vocal Competition winner, personally awarded by Quincy Jones, Izzi has performed on renowned stages worldwide, including the Kennedy Center and major international jazz festivals. Singing fluently in English, Italian, and Portuguese, she brings authenticity, elegance, and deep musical insight to this cross-cultural repertoire.

Together with her quartet, Izzi creates a refined and immersive concert experience, one that celebrates music as a living bridge between cultures, languages, and generations.

General admission is $36. Admission for Stony Brook University faculty and staff, alumni and seniors is $33, and $18 for SBU students. Buy tickets online.

Held in collaboration with The Jazz Loft in Stony Brook and curated by its founder, musician and Stony Brook University Endowed Artist in Residence Thomas Manuel, the series is a celebration of creativity, history and artistry. It explores various facets of jazz music, with each performance offering a unique experience.
