Augusta, Georgia Issues Winter Weather Update

AUGUSTA, GA (January 10, 2025) - Augusta, Georgia Government is closely monitoring current winter weather conditions and urges all residents to exercise caution. As of this morning, the area is experiencing a wintry mix that is expected to transition into freezing rain this afternoon and continue into the evening.

All Augusta, Georgia government offices will close at 12:00pm. Normal operations will resume on Monday, January 13, 2025. Residents are encouraged to limit travel due to potentially hazardous road conditions. If travel is necessary, please drive with extreme caution.

Augusta Transit: All Augusta Transit bus services have been suspended until further notice.

Augusta Landfill: The Augusta Landfill is closed. We will evaluate weather conditions for Saturday operations.

Trash collection: Regular service for Friday, January 10 has been suspended. We will evaluate conditions to resume pick-up on Saturday or services will resume on Monday, January 13, 2025.

To report hazardous conditions such as icy roads, fallen branches, or other weather-related concerns, please contact Augusta 311. City crews are actively working to treat roads and respond to any reported issues to ensure public safety.

Residents are reminded to take necessary precautions, including:

  • Staying indoors when possible
  • Using extra caution on sidewalks and driveways
  • Checking on neighbors, especially the elderly and those with mobility challenges
  • Preparing for potential power outages
