Winnipeg, MB- On Wednesday, May 7, 2025, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to a structure fire and a wildland fire.
Cumberland Avenue fire
At 7:14 a.m. on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a high-rise building in the 400 block of Cumberland Avenue. Because there are increased life safety concerns related to high-rise buildings, additional crews responded to the scene.
At the scene, crews saw heavy smoke coming from the building. Firefighters attacked the fire while ensuring residents of the building were safe.
Firefighters declared the fire under control by 7:56 a.m. No injuries were reported. The fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.
Commerce Drive fire
At 4:12 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, WFPS responded to reports of a wildland fire near the 200 block of Commerce Drive.
At the scene, crews found a grass fire. Firefighters deployed a wildland response, using specialized wildland vehicles. Crews declared the fire under control by 7:57 p.m.
WFPS issued an open-air fire banfor Winnipeg until Monday, May 19, 2025 in response to dry conditions and the increased risk of grass and wildland fires in Winnipeg.
