The State Legislature created the Alabama Academy of Honor on October 29, 1965, to bestow honor and recognition upon living Alabamians whose outstanding accomplishments and service have significantly benefitted or reflected great credit on the State of Alabama.
Inductees of recent years include Bernard LaFayette Jr., William S. "Sandy" Stimpson, Ray L. Watts, Charles W. Barkley, Champ Lyons Jr., and James W. "Jimmy" Rane.
Current members of the Academy will elect new members to be inducted at a ceremony at the State Capitol on October 19, 2026.
The Academy is accepting nominations until April 13, 2026. Nominations may be made by any Alabama citizen or a current member of the Alabama Academy of Honor. Nomination forms are available online at www.alabamaacademyofhonor.org or upon request by writing or calling the Academy's administrative offices:
